Theology Rocks Show #35 - "Giving Thanks ... slowing it down"

"Dear Lord, bless this food.... and ... uh ... thanks for the ... uh ... great life .... and the kids ... and the wife .... .... and ... uh .... bless the .... uh ... those who are traveling ... and .... uh .... " (*pssst! the food's getting cold!*) " .... Amen!"

So, everything we have is from God, and he provides it to us in his time. What's his, what's 'ours,' and when does he provide it....

I think you know a little

I think you know a little what I think about prayer before a meal because of our lunch on Monday. I do like to pray before a meal just because it is a great time to and I remember. That is it; I just remember before I eat and I seize that opportunity to talk to God. Not just about the food, but to thank, praise, and ask. I don’t pray for a long time before a meal because others are waiting on me and I don’t like to make it annoying to them, I just keep it short, sincere, and to the point. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for every meal I have because I know what it is like in third-world countries, I have been there. I just don’t use that time to only thank God for the food. I guess it is a convenient time to pray and I try to remember to pray at other times also. Getting up in the morning is a great time. I just use things I do every day to remind me that God is there and I need to return a little time to him.

BTW, yes you are weird, but an effective weird…

Hey, where did that Grace Juice go, baby?

yeah, well....

we try to limit our discussions, and keep the show short. Thanks for the comments.

We've really never talked about prayer in a general sense. My goal in tossing out this topic was to focus on the "Grace" or "Thanks" we offer before a meal and why. Like you, I used to always "forget to bless the food," but recently I've become more attuned to the thanking for the food at the meal which keeps me mindful of everything else because it helps to center me on the fact that our Father provides everything to us as we need it. Every day, every meal, every breath....

Simply

In a short, simple paraphrase, I pray before a meal because it is a good way to make a habit of prayer. That is why I do it. What do I pray? With others, thanks for food, the people, that we watch our testimony... when it is just me, well, it is a little longer and more in depth. I focus on the thanks when others are gathered to make it simple.

I think you're missing the point.... I'm not disagreeing with you.

Neither am I

I am not disagreeing with you. Gosh...

Giving Thanks - -

Each day is new - everyone should live their life in prayer.
You don't need to run to the closet - get on you knees to pray - -
you need to live a prayerful life - everything we do needs to be
preseeded by prayer, even grace before a meal. We need to give thanks
for all that "God" has done for us - - After all "HE" has done all
for a reason.
