One of our listeners (and a good friend of Jody), Brian, asked about martyrs: "When you return to the computer pontificate on "martyrs" ... specifically how to raise awareness of [them]..."
I guess we really didn't answer that question directly, but we did give you some resources. Maybe you can tell us what the Church should be doing to raise awareness about martyrs.

If called to do so...
A saying that my dad wrote down in his bible a long time ago is brought up at the end of this show. "I repent of living like I deserve anything." It is completely true. We are no better than anyone else if we follow Christ, we are just showing more appreciation (don't forget the eternal life and stuff). It is a show of respect and does not make you deserve anything. Being a martyr is about giving the most you can give to Christ. Our earthly lives are the most we can give. I don't feel it is a spiritual gift from God as much as a commandment from God if that is what it comes too.

Voice of the Martyrs
I don't think it is something to glamorize or encourage people to seek after. That is something we have seen the negative consequences of in numerous times and places. Martyrom is never something to be sought after. But...
As the church I do think we should focus some attention on it as a means showing people an example of the kind of commitment that Christ called us to, that it is attainable though the power of the Hold Spirit, and to encouraging people to develop that level of commitment. It is risky and could be perverted into something else like you pointed out but is also important.
Too many people are stuck in the rut of just trying to "be a better person" that they don't even consider that seemingly average people are called every day to do exceptional things that are not possible in the natural. If churches telling the stories of martyrs on the streets facing angry mobs for their faith can inspire a few of us to stand up for our faith against nothing more than a cubicle farm full of grumpy co-workers it just might be worth the risk…
uh, huh!
Amen!
Martyrdom
I think its a very silly thing. I really putting a y in the middle is just not right. It would be much more reasonable I think to spell it this way Marterdum. See now isnt that better? As for the show, well great show. Informative and thought provoking. I dont think its a ministry unto itself, although I do think some maybe asked to do it. Its not God's plan A.... prolly not his place K either but He does work all things to his glory and if I am called to do it in 30 or 50 years then so be it. Keep up the good work!

that's odd...
I thought God didn't have a "Plan B." If anything happens that is not part of God's "Plan A," then God's not sovereign.... is he?
