"the good Lord"

It seems like it has always bugged me when people say, "the good Lord...." "The good Lord is watching over me." "The good Lord is going to take care of me." "The good Lord [this]." "The good Lord [that]."

It finally dawned on me why it bugs me. In the case that you're talking about my God, "good" is just an insufficient redundancy. It's like saying "the large Vastness," or the "the bright Brilliance."
