That feels good
We got a thank-you note from Gordon Paul today for our show on the Trinity, 'Theology Rocks Show #40 - "Introduction to Thinking Trinitarian Thoughts - What's In There?"'
We did the show in response to a question from Gordon, so it was rewarding to get a note back from him, confirming that it had been helpful.
Dan and I discussed, before we started doing the show, that the chances that anyone would listen were slim.... there are, after all, literally tens of thousands of podcasts out there. (Podcast Alley claims 29,353. Podcast Pickle claims to list 12571.) Why would anyone want to listen to us? Despite the facts, we decided that we had something that we needed to say, and we had a way of saying it that some people might benefit from.
Since we started, we have not seriously considered shelving the show, but we were frustrated that no one was listening. We did not expect tens of thousands of listeners each week, and people trying to line us up for live gigs, but we did expect to hear something from the friends and relatives we guilted into listening to the show. The total lack of feedback was the cause of the Special Feedback Episode (00) of Hillbilly Theology.
Eventually, we rebranded the show under the name "Theology Rocks - truths to stand on" for the simple reason that lots of people were just put off by the ... uh ... threatening overtones (?) of the word "Hillbilly." Within a week of the name change, we actually started getting feedback from people. It was amazing!
So far, it's been a lot of fun, and a fantastic blessing. I hope that God is blessing more people than just Gordon, Dan and I in this.
