We start off with the intent to look at how tithes and offerings effect the giver, and ended up talking about how God blesses us when we are faithful, and when we trust in Him. tithe
I wouldn't expect Jesus to destroy the tithe. Remember he was born and lived under the law(Matthew 23:1; Galatians 4:4). Also we have all this talk about God never changing(which i principally believe in), but they've changed everything about tithing except for how much we give. We've changed what we give, who we give to, where we give, and when we give. God never changes is totally contradictory to these facts about tithing. God's principles and promises never change. Tithing is not a principle, because that's not how God gives to us. It is not part of his character to be a tither, so tithing is not a spiritual/eternal principle. Faihfulness, cherfully, freely, liberally, and sacrificially are principles of giving, because that's how God gives.
thanks an interesting view
thanks an interesting view of the subject. I'll have to think about it.
thanks.
tithing
It's old covenant. No longer relative. Not unlike the 10 Commandments.
ah, yes.... 'old covenant'
it sounds so simple.... but you know it never is in real life.
I've learned that any time I think I have the one-line discussion closer ... or any discussion closer, I'm way, way off base.
If tithing is old covenant, and no longer relevant, and the 10 commandments are no longer relevant, then murder, adultery and worshiping false gods are all okay?
Old?
I am not old but I know that just because it is old doesn't mean it is irrelevant to the present time. The old testament is still in effect. The only thing that changed is that Christ became the Ultimate sacrifice.
