Theology Rocks Show #41 - "Why People Don't Read Romans and Why They Should - Theology is Good"

Many times people don't bother to dig into the hard doctrines of Christianity. Christian theology is found in Romans and Corinthians (1 & 2), Galatians, etc.... That's the stuff that a lot of people don't want to mess with. That's where the really good stuff of Christianity gets explained.

“Theology Rocks - truths to stand on” is a production of OpenDiscipleship.org, "teaching great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others."

“Theology Rocks - truths to stand on” is... Simple, clear talk about theological truths for Christians. A conversation between two Christian brothers about all kinds of theological issues, daily issues with theological implications, and how Christianity should permeate every aspect of the Christian's life.

Commitment Level

Joshua captured part of it, but I would go a little further and say most people don't read their Bibles outside of what page their pastor or devotional book tell them to turn to. Dan can check this for me but I expect pastors are almost discouraged from talking about the full extent of the Christian life in a sermon because that commitment level scares people or makes them uncomfortable.

Yes, most are!!

In some denominational situations Pastors are encouraged to make it sound like things are okay and not to worry about the future..It is called "Lying". Some Pastors who do not have that kind of denom pressure, do not want to upset their big contributors. So they tickle the ears and water down the truth.
You are right...telling the trurth about the Christian life scares some people because they do not want to hear that Satan hates them and will put as much pressure on them as God will allow. They do not want to hear about trials and tribulations, they do not want to hear about testing to become stronger. They do not want to grow in Christ...they want to feel good about the lack of effort they put into it. (Did I start preaching???) (Somebody say AMEN!!!) (Pass the plate!!)

Simplicity

I agree with the fact that we (people) don't read Romans just because we are lazy and don't want to think. It is more difficult than a parable and it makes us go for the reason instead of the outcome.
Solution (since that is what is needed): Read it, you need it. Think about it and don't be lazy. Yes, it will hurt your head, but it will make you see things more clearly and you will enjoy it if yo utry to understand it.
