Theology Rocks Show #47 - "Children in Church Part 2 - Feedback from John Wilkerson"

John Wilkerson of the Jesus Geek podcast dropped us some audio feedback based on last week's show, but refocussion on children in church, and how we feel about some specific issues. The most interesting part of the question for us was, how we deal with churches that don't want to deal with children in the service.... Grab a bag of popcorn, Dan and Jody hit it on the head.

“Theology Rocks - truths to stand on” is a production of OpenDiscipleship.org, "teaching great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others."

“Theology Rocks - truths to stand on” is... Simple, clear talk about theological truths for Christians. A conversation between two Christian brothers about all kinds of theological issues, daily issues with theological implications, and how Christianity should permeate every aspect of the Christian's life.

KIDS

My oldest son is a special case. When he was younger and undiagnosed as ADHD he was a maniac at church and my wife couldn't come because I was unavailable to help due to working the tech stuff. He's gotten a lot better since but not enough to sit though a whole service. Now we have a kids worship where kids are excused half way though.

I understand this problem

DAVe,
I understand what you mean. That is the good side of children's programing. Your son is a special case. I myself, believe it or not, was blessed with ADHD. When I was in high school it was hard for me to sit in church, I can not begin to understand what my life would have been like if I had started to church earlier.

The point we are trying to make is that, aside from special cases, we are teaching all of our kids how not to sit through church. When it comes time for them to finally sit in big church, it will not be the same experience for them.

I do mean I was blessed with ADHD.

Yeah I get it

I get what you're saying. I guess what I am saying is special cases like mine messes up the good ideas. I am all for children in church but not all should be or is it better to say can be. My wife missed out because no one would listen that some kids need an alternative. luckily that changed. But now there are no kids there in the second half. You just can't win.

"was blessed?"

what do you mean "was bless,"? I would say you are blessed with AD(h)D (with receding hyperactivity).

Oh, Look! A chicken!.....

I say what you're seeing!!

Actually the only reason my hyperactivity is receding is I have gotten old and am wearing out!!
